Schtask.exe cpu usage make server freeze

Hello,

We have two old virtualmachine 2008 r2, running remote desktop app services, and we got some issues with  schtask.exe process that comes randomly and uses all of cpu ressources that freeze the server.

We have to force restart the vm to get the services running again.

My question :

is it possible to disable remote access to schtasks.exe or just disable it forever? Because we 're suspecting a virus trying to remotly access to the task scheduler on both machines.

Windows Search Index does not show more locations for me to choose

OS: Windows Server 2019 Standard

Version: 1809

OS build: 17763.1039

Server is a VM installed on a Windows Server 2019 Standard Hyper-V physical server.

Server has terminal services installed and is being used as a RDP server.

It has the search services feature installed.

The problem is that I am unable to select any of the drives as locations for search indexing. There should be at least a C: D: and F: drive available for indexing, but none are available. I have already click the "Show all locations" button but that added nothing to the list. I have tried logging in as a new user, but that didn't help. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the feature but that didn't change anything. Server has been rebooted multiple times with no change. I'm really at a loss at this point, any other server 2019 that I try the same process on works perfectly.

We have Remote Desktop published through Web Application Proxy, both running on Server 2012 R2.

 

The RDS application in WAP is configured for pass-through authentication so users can connect from both Windows and non-Windows ("rich apps" on Android/iOS/Mac) devices. This has been working for the past few years without issue.

 

After installing recent update KB4534309 (or the rollup that contains it, KB4534297), the non-Windows clients are unable to connect. They show error 0x3000008 during the "initiating remote connection" phase:

We couldn't connect to the gateway because of an error. If this keeps happening, ask your admin or tech support for help.

Has anyone experienced this or figured out a way to fix it?

Broker HA setup and DNS

Hey guys,

I guess a simple (stupid) question for the RDS specialist. 
We have one broker and several Session Host servers. There is a DNS entry, lets say "RDS.Domain.local" which is setup for Round Robin. The A record is created multiple times for every RDSH server. So users will use this DNS name to connect to the farm.

When i want to make the broker HA i have to setup Round Robin also for the brokers. Lets say i create a record called "Broker.domain.com". How does a user connect to the farm after the broker HA setup? Will he/she still use "RDS.domain.local"? 
I will use an external CA given certificate for the broker setup, like for example *.domain.com. This will be setup during the 'Broker HA setup' for Single Signon and Publishing. Can i still use "RDS.Domain.local" to connect to the RDS farm from a user point of view? Or will i end up in conflicts because i use .Domain.local (RDSH) and .Domain.com (Brokers)?

File Share Cluster for UPD

Hello everyone,

So im stuck for days on a problem, I have an RDS farm and the file share for upd (single node).

I want to file share cluster for the high availability on the UPD profiles.

So I started creating the cluster on azure.

Each node has 2 hdd for data for the cluster, I have enable ClusterS2D create the disk on CSVFS_REFS format and everything until now is fine. Then I installed the Scale-Out File Server role so the upd will be always available.

Configured a load balancer so can point to the file share role ip, I can connect now with the file share from the RDCB but when I try to add the shared path to  the user profile disk I got this error.

I have set the static ports for RPC on regedit.

W2k16 RDP fails. Event Log RemoteDesktopServices-RdpCoreTS shows error 227 'Failed to create Input devices'

After the server has been up for a number of days we can no longer login with Remote desktop.

Initially after entering the logon/password an RDP window would open with all of teh video region black.  After about 20 seconds an error dialog box would open:  "Failed to reconnect to your remote session.  Please try to connect again."

Repeated attempts to connect all fail.

I am able to mount the servers C: drive and view files.

I tries restarting any service that looked related to RDP.

I no longer get the black screen and the logon fails silently.

I compared the Event Log messages from a working system and a failing system.

The 1st divergence is the 36th event (out of 106 in the working case).

The error event is ID-227

'Failed to create Input devices in CUMRDPConnection::NotifySessionId ' at 1976 err=[0x80070102]

This error in Visual Studio "Error Lookup" translates to "The wait operation timed out."

In the working case the 36th event is ID=66 "The connection RDP_Tcp#27 was assigned to session 2."

A reboot always recovers, butt hat is not acceptable.  I see that many others have posted similar problems with RDP.

Please advise.

RD Connection Broker 2012 R2 -> 2016 Upgrade

Hello, I've been searching high and low for an answer to this with no luck... it seems to me, that the only published and supported way to do this upgrade is via an in-place OS upgrade.  That's not an option for us.

Short of completely rebuilding new Connection Brokers and re-creating all the Deployment related settings, is there any way to do the upgrade of my brokers using new servers, and not using in-place OS upgrade to get it done?

Remote app: hide server local drives & map client drives with drive letter

Hello all,

We've setup an RDS farm with 6 RDS host servers on server 2016.

The application itself cannot see network drives, only mapped drives (aka with a specific drive letter). 
Passing through a users drive to the remote host works fine, but I'm looking for a way to automatically map this drive to a drive letter for the specific user.
Can this be done? And how?

Also, I would like to hide the servers physiscal hard drives, so users don't get confused and to keep things lean.

What are the best practices to accomplish this?

Remote Desktop Services activate collection 'refresh' via command line or PowerShell

Hi folks, 

Apologies if this has been asked before, I've been looking for a while and had no luck. 

As the title states i'm looking for a way to activate the 'refresh' button in Remote Desktop services via command line for any given collection of ours, ideally with PowerShell. Is there a way to refresh it without having to open Server Manager and manually clicking this button?

What is this 'refresh' button actually doing behind the scenes?

Environment:

VMware vSphere 6.7.0.40000

Windows Server 2016 v.1607 Build 14393.3504

     VMXNET3

Ubuntu 

     VMXNET3

iperf3 3.1.3

     16 streams

Test results:

Before RDS:  25.1 Gbits/sec send & receive

After RDS:      8.25 Gbits/sec send & receive

Is this reduction a function of RDS or the network. I have been unable to find any documentation that lays out the relationship between the two. What I have found "Performance Tuning Remote Desktop Session Hosts" is thin on details. This is a "session-based" implementation to alow large data sets (~4TB) to duplicated and distributed to targed file servers. The number of clients would never exceed 8. Is it possible to effect the throughput?

Floating Language Bar

Hi,

Is it possible to add a language for all users who log in to Remote Desktop Server 2019? We are having a hard time making floating language bar visible on RDP Sessions. We have published a website under internet explorer which runs after users log in to RDP Server and we need users to be able to write in another language together with English.

RDS device CAL for many users but working simultaneously

Hi,

    According to licensing policy of RDS device CAL, this license is granting permission for any users working from one device having valid RDS device CAL.

I understand that purpose of this license is mostly dedicated for users working in shift work, but I am wondering if I could use this license for users working simultaneously, at the same time, from this one device.

Above scenario obviously could be possible to solve by additional software application, but this is why I am asking if this is legal and not violating RDS license terms.

Random disconnections from an RDS host and Remote Desktop Services Diagnostic Tool

Hi guys,

I have a Windows Server 2016 with RD Broker and RD Session Host roles. Users connect to this RD Session Host via another server with Remote Desktop Gateway role installed. In other words first users connect to a remote desktop gateway and then are redirected to a remote desktop session host (terminal server).

There are four users who work on that server and one of them sporadically gets disconnected from the server. 

When it happens that user can see this message. 

 

I checked local network connectivity as well as WAN link - all good and no dropouts.

I installed Remote Desktop Services Diagnostic Tool but struggling to interpret an output. 

What user failed to logon means if that users indeed logged in but just gets disconnected sporadically?

Hi,

I have got the following scenario and would like to change the domain controller on the Remote Desktop Session host server.

1. 

Domain Name - xyz.local

SVR01 ( It is remote desktop session host and license server )

2. 

Domain Name - abc.local

Requirement

I would like to move users, groups, GPO from xyl.local to abc.local domain without losing the user profiles settings and apps configuration in SVRRDSH01. 

I will be decommissioning the domain xyl.local. 

What would be the best method to complete the migration?

I am currently testing RDS in our environment on 2019 servers. I followed this guide to set this up.

I applied a wildcard certificate for all the services. 

When the user logs on to https://rds.mycompany.com/rdweb with domain credentials he is prompted for another login to the RD Gateway. 

 

The RDweb service is running on the same host as the RD Gateway. I have come across applying group policy, trusted sites etc. But my issue here is the users will be logging from a non-domain joined home PCs. Please help.

I'm Receiving above error in Event Logs in every 1-2 Hrs,

I have tried all like below settings.
        1. Offload Receive IP Checksum
        2. Offload Receive TCP Checksum
        3. Offload TCP Segmentation
        4. Offload Transmit IP Checksum
        5. Offload Transmit TCP Checksum
        6. IPV4 Checksum Offload
        7. Large Send Offload v2 (IPV4)
        8. Large Send Offload v2 (IPV6)
        9. Receive-Side Scaling
        10. TCP Checksum Offload (IPV4)
        11. TCP Checksum Offload (IPV6)
        12. UDP Checksum Offload (IPV4)

Disabling Chimney / RSS
Netdma Disabled through registry,..  but still im receiving Event : 50 errors.

upgrade OS on connection broker

Hi guys,

i have 2 connection broker server with 2012 R2 configured on ha mode. So i need to upgrade this server to 2019 because i will need to use 2019 as host server.

i have saw this document

but it's not clear, i need  remove the server from HA group, upgrade OS, after upgrade the second server without remove the HA group and finally add the first server to HA group again? it's the correct procedure?

Windows Server 2019 RDP license

Hello,

 

We bought a license for 50 users, which works well as we can use tens of active ones, but still logs in the login error that it expires in 116 days because the rd server is not configured but on the license tab green it says that there is a license for 50 users. The License Management Test Module writes 0 user licenses ....
Has anyone ever encountered such a mistake?

How to allow Terminal Server logon scripts to use PowerShell full language mode?

Hello everybody,

At a customer's site there is a PowerShell logon script set for users via GPO. The users log on to Terminal (RDP) Servers. PowerShell seems to be in restricted language mode at least for normal users. However, the logon script must use features not available in PowerShell restricted language mode.

How can we have the logon scripts in full language mode please?
